OSE Involved in Organising the International Low Carbon Cities Forum held in Pudong, Shanghai (28-29 January 2015)

Dr Samuel Chen was involved in organising the International Low Carbon Cities Forum held in the Lingang District of Pudong, Shanghai during 28-29 January 2015. The event, initiated and organised by the Low Carbon Committee, Shanghai Services Federation & Low Carbon Community and co-sponsored by the Pudong Government and the City of London, aimed to examine the best practices in low carbon cities in order to launch a collaborative project between Shanghai and London (with the UK in general) to develop the Lingang District. Dr Samuel Chen and Professor Steve Rayner, Co-director of the Oxford Future of Cities Programme, representing the University of Oxford attended the Forum. Professor Rayner was one of the keynote speakers. Other UK representatives included Rt Hon Greg Barker, Chairman of the London Sustainable Development Commission and Former Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change; Ms Lucinda Turner, Head of Strategy and Policy, Transport for London; Professor Richard Templer, Director of UK Co-Location Centre for Climate KIC, Imperial College, London; Dr Andy Kerr, Executive Director, and Mr Ed Craig, Deputy Director, Head of Enterprise & Innovation, Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation; Mr Martin Garrat, CEO of Cambridge Cleantech, and Mr Andre Shortell, Partner, GP Bullhound. Together with the rest of the UK delegation, Dr Samuel Chen provided recommendations to the Lingang District Administration for its development as a flagship region of China in education; medicine and healthcare; safe food import and export and food processing; smart city; ecological and environmental development; research and development; sports, fitness, recreation, tourism, and culture; commerce and shopping; integrative real estate and urban development; media; and international exchange.
